Who is allowed a .online, and how little do we need from you?
Radix, the registry, sets no condition at all on .online: any person or group, in any country, for any lawful use. We add just one requirement, set by ICANN rules: a working email that you confirm. There is no ID scan, no phone check and no address proof. That email stays private. You fund a balance in Bitcoin, Ether, Solana, Litecoin, USDT or USDC, and the order is paid from it. A community or online service can therefore start with almost no paperwork. Only the email is stored, and only for account notices.
Who appears in the .online record
Our privacy service appears in the public contact fields of your .online, not you. The ICANN lookup still displays the registrar, nameservers, status locks and dates, which every domain shares. Privacy is included at no extra charge. Radix receives registration data under its registry policy and keeps its own copy. If you run a forum or community, this keeps the founder's home address out of reach of angry members. It does not hide abuse from us.
Is Domain protection worth it on .online?
It depends on how exposed you are. The optional Domain protection puts the .online in our company name, so even Radix sees us, not you. Its transfer lock stays on by default: any transfer or DNS change needs confirmation from your account. We hold only your email. We release the data we hold only when Panamanian law requires it (a Panamanian court or prosecutor's order), or in a UDRP case. A person reviews complaints before action.
Radix and the record .online launch
.online launched on 26 August 2015 and took over 38,000 registrations in its first 24 hours. It began as a joint venture of Radix, Tucows and Namecheap after a private auction in 2014; Radix bought out the partners in 2015. Wikipedia counts 3,987,173 names on 4 October 2025. Radix, founded by Bhavin Turakhia, also runs .site, .store and .tech. The Wikipedia article carries a paid-editing warning, so treat its figures with care. The registry sets no eligibility rule on .online.

.online questions
Why is .online so cheap at some registrars, then expensive?
Registrars use a low first year to attract buyers, often below the wholesale cost, and earn it back at renewal. On 19 October 2026, Porkbun charged $1.96 for the first year and $28.84 after. Our first year is higher, but the renewal step is small. Compare totals over several years.
Is .online a good name for a SaaS product?
It can work when the .com is taken and the product runs in the browser. It is longer than .io or .app, so check that the full address stays easy to say. For a startup, also read startups and SaaS. The registry adds no rule on product type.
Can I use my own nameservers with a .online?
Yes. Set between two and thirteen nameservers in the client area, or use our free DNS with A, AAAA, CNAME, MX, TXT and CAA records. The registry supports DNSSEC. Changes go through your account, and with Domain protection each one needs your confirmation.
What happens if someone reports my .online community?
We review the report. Complaints about copyright, defamation or politics need a decision from a Panamanian court before we act. Phishing, malware, botnets, CSAM and fraud against victims are handled at once on a documented report. Spam counts only when it carries one of those abuses. See the abuse policy.
