Does Anguilla restrict who owns a .ai, and do we check ID?
The Government of Anguilla sets no residency, trademark or business test for second-level .ai names. A founder in Lagos or Lisbon can register one as easily as a resident. The registry's main rule is the term: two years minimum. On our side, ICANN rules require the registrant email to be verified, and that email check is the only one. Identity Digital took over management in January 2025, for the Government of Anguilla. Wikipedia counts 1,277,727 .ai names in June 2026. Fees brought Anguilla about $32 million in 2023, more than 10% of its GDP. A minister told the BBC this income could reach about 47% of state revenue by 2025. Trademark disputes follow the UDRP.

Costs and rules to check on .ai
Budget for two years each time: the minimum covers both new names and renewals. Elsewhere, transfers are often billed for two years too: Porkbun charges $165.09 for a .ai transfer. Here too, a .ai transfer is billed 2 years: the transfer price in the table above plus one renewal, $170.98, and the registry adds 2 years to the expiry date. The 60-day transfer lock of gTLDs is not an ICANN rule here; the registry's own rules apply, and we have not verified them in detail. Revenue now matters to Anguilla's budget, so pricing policy could change. Fake AI investment schemes are fraud against victims and are suspended on a documented report.
Per-year .ai prices at other registrars
Porkbun lists .ai at $82.70 a year, checked on 19 October 2026, with the same two-year minimum. On 8 October 2026, Cloudflare showed $80.00 at cost, Dynadot $85.60, and Namecheap $84.18 then $92.18. Epik listed $74.95, but its crypto payment is not confirmed in 2026. Offshore sellers: Njalla €75 and 1984 Hosting $119.99. OrangeWebsite lists €217.80 (2-year minimum; the price list does not say whether this covers one year or two).

Why can't I register a .ai for one year only?
The .ai registry sets a two-year minimum for new registrations and for renewals. Every registrar must follow it. Our page shows the price per year so you can compare it with other extensions, and checkout charges two years. After that, you renew for two years or more at a time.
Is .ai a safe choice if Anguilla changes its policy?
Anguilla faces no sovereignty dispute like the one around .io. The main risk is price: .ai income is now a large share of public revenue, and the government can change fees. Identity Digital has run the registry since January 2025. We have not seen any announced fee change for 2027.
Can a company complain and take my .ai?
A trademark owner can file a UDRP case, and the panel decision is applied. We lock the name when the provider asks and send it the registrant record, as the rules require. Other complaints need a Panamanian court decision before we act. Read how UDRP works with us.
