Checked 8 and 19 October 2026 (date per row). Njalla, OrangeWebsite and 1984 Hosting publish one list price per extension and no separate renewal price, so the renewal cell shows "—". OrangeWebsite lists .ai with a 2-year minimum and does not say whether €217.80 covers one year or two. Namecheap's .com renewal is $18.48 at list price and $14.78 with a renewal code.

What are the key findings of the index?

Six findings, each from the tables above.

  1. Offshore usually costs more on .com. At the four other offshore registrars, list prices start at $15.99 (1984 Hosting), 53% above Cloudflare's at-cost $10.46, and reach €18.90 (OrangeWebsite). Isthmus Domains charges $11.99, the same to renew.
  2. The .com floor moves on 1 November 2026. The wholesale cost goes from $10.46 to $11.17 (+$0.71, or +6.8%). Cloudflare ($10.46), Dynadot ($10.88) and Porkbun ($11.08) are below the new floor today.
  3. First-year .com promos hide the renewal. Namecheap's $6.48 needs a new-customer code, and its renewal is $18.48 at list price ($14.78 with a code), 2.9 times the promo year.
  4. .io renewals jump. At four US registrars, the .io renewal is 56% to 89% above the first year: Cloudflare $32.00 to $50.00, Porkbun $28.12 to $51.80, Dynadot $28.89 to $53.50, Namecheap $32.18 to $60.98.
  5. .ai has no offshore discount. In US dollars, .ai runs from $74.95 (Epik) to $119.99 (1984 Hosting) a year; Njalla lists €75. Epik sits below Cloudflare's at-cost $80.00 (cfdomainpricing.com, 8 October 2026).
  6. Monero is an offshore feature. Three of the five offshore registrars accept it; none of the five US registrars documents it. Isthmus Domains does not accept Monero.

How was the index built?

We read each price on a known date and wrote that date on its row.

  • Sources. The registrar's own price list where we could read it (Njalla, OrangeWebsite, 1984 Hosting, Porkbun, Dynadot), cfdomainpricing.com for Cloudflare, domainoffer.net for Namecheap and Epik, and the directory whtop for FlokiNET.
  • Dates. OrangeWebsite, Porkbun and Namecheap's .com were read on 19 October 2026; the rest on 8 October 2026.
  • ICANN fee. Namecheap adds the $0.20 ICANN fee at checkout: its .com prices of 19 October 2026 are shown before it, its 8 October prices with it.
  • Promo codes. A first-year price that needs a code is marked as such, and a renewal price with a code is shown next to the list price.
  • Currencies. Euro prices stay in euros; we convert none of them.
  • .ai. Prices are per year; most registrars sell .ai for at least 2 years at a time.
  • Our own prices come from our live price list, the same one used at checkout. We do not claim to be the least expensive registrar.

What does a .com cost over five years at each registrar?

Five years of a .com, at the prices of October 2026 and before the 1 November rise:

  • Cloudflare: $52.30 (5 × $10.46)
  • Dynadot: $54.40
  • Porkbun: $55.40
  • Isthmus Domains: $59.95 (5 × $11.99, since registration and renewal cost the same)
  • 1984 Hosting: $79.95 (if its list price applies every year)
  • Epik: $79.95
  • Namecheap: $80.40 (one promo year + four renewals at list price; $65.60 with a renewal code)
  • Njalla: €75 (if its list price applies every year)
  • OrangeWebsite: €94.50 (same condition)

Offshore registrar price index: FAQ

How much does an offshore .com cost in 2026?

Between $15.99 and €18.90 a year at the offshore registrars we checked in October 2026: 1984 Hosting $15.99, Njalla €15, FlokiNET about €18.75 and OrangeWebsite €18.90. Isthmus Domains, offshore in Panama, charges $11.99/year to register and to renew.

Why are offshore registrars more expensive than Porkbun or Cloudflare?

The wholesale cost is the same for everyone: $10.46 for a .com until 31 October 2026. Cloudflare sells at that cost, and Porkbun close to it. Smaller offshore providers add a larger margin, and some price in euros. The index shows the gap; it does not measure each company's costs.

Will .com prices rise in November 2026?

The wholesale cost will. Verisign's fee goes from $10.26 to $10.97 on 1 November 2026, so the cost with the ICANN fee rises from $10.46 to $11.17. Registrars that sell below $11.17 today, such as Cloudflare, Dynadot and Porkbun, will likely adjust. We plan to check again after that date.

Why is the .io renewal higher than the first year?

Many registrars sell the first year of .io below the usual price and charge the full price on renewal. In this index, Porkbun goes from $28.12 to $51.80 and Namecheap from $32.18 to $60.98. At Isthmus Domains, .io costs $34.49 the first year and $52.99 after.

Why do some cells show a dash?

A dash means the registrar does not publish that figure in the source we read. Njalla, OrangeWebsite and 1984 Hosting show one list price per extension, without a separate renewal price. For FlokiNET, we found only a .com price, in a secondary directory.

Can I use this data in an article or a report?

Yes. The index is licensed CC BY 4.0. Credit "Isthmus Domains, Offshore registrar price index 2026" with a link to this page and the dates of the check. Prices change, so quote the date with the figure.
