.pro domain offshore, with no ID and no licence check

.pro was once limited to licensed professionals, but that rule ended in November 2015. Today a freelancer anywhere can register one from Panama with an email and crypto.

Quick answer

Can I register a .pro domain offshore without showing a licence or ID?

Yes. The .pro extension has had no professional restriction since November 2015, and Identity Digital runs it today. We ask for one verified email, no ID, and register the name to you with WHOIS privacy. At Isthmus Domains, an offshore domain registrar in Panama, a .pro costs $19.99/year the first year and $20.99/year to renew (19 October 2026), paid in crypto with no KYC.

Do you still need to prove a profession for .pro?

No. When .pro started, registrants had to show a professional licence, for example as a lawyer, doctor, accountant or engineer. That eligibility rule was dropped in November 2015, according to the Wikipedia history of the extension. Since then anyone, from any country, can register a .pro name. At Isthmus Domains the only check is the one ICANN requires: we verify one email address after registration. There is no passport upload, no business register extract and no video call. You pay in crypto, and the order page shows the exact amount and network.

Will clients see your home address on a .pro lookup?

No. Freelancers often work from home, which is why this matters on .pro. With the WHOIS privacy we include, the privacy service contact replaces your email in a public RDAP lookup, the only contact data we collect. The lookup still shows technical data: registrar, nameservers, status codes and dates. Identity Digital, as registry, keeps its own copy of the registration data and applies its own rules to it.

Domain protection for a professional .pro address

If you want the registry record itself to carry another name, add the optional Domain protection. Our company DomaineGoat LLC then appears as registrant at Identity Digital and in WHOIS. Transfers and DNS edits wait for confirmation from your account, since the transfer lock is on by default. We hold only your email. We release the data we hold only when Panamanian law requires it (a Panamanian court or prosecutor's order), or in a UDRP case. A person reads every complaint before anything happens. More on the Domain protection page.

The registry behind .pro and how its rules changed

.pro is one of the older generic extensions. ICANN selected it in November 2000, in the same round as .biz and .name, long before the 2012 new gTLD programme. For years it was a restricted space for licensed professionals. Since November 2015 it has been open to all. The IANA root zone database lists Identity Digital Limited as its manager today. The extension supports DNSSEC and accented (IDN) labels, and Amazon's registrar guide lists terms of 1 to 10 years. ICANN rules apply in full, including the UDRP for trademark claims.

Who picks .pro today

UseWhy .pro fits
Freelancers and contractorsyourname.pro reads as a work address, not a hobby site.
ConsultantsBooking pages and proposals look tidy under a .pro.
Accountants, lawyers, engineersThe original target group still uses it, now with no licence check.
Client email[email protected] keeps work mail apart from a personal inbox.

Points to weigh on .pro

Because .pro is open, it carries no proof of qualification: clients cannot read it as a licence. Set up SPF, DKIM and DMARC records before you send client email, or messages may land in spam folders. A domain is locked for 60 days after registration or transfer, under the ICANN Transfer Policy. Keep auto-renew on with enough balance, since a lapsed work address breaks invoices and logins. Impersonating a real firm or bank on a .pro is fraud and leads to suspension.

.pro questions

Is .pro still only for licensed professionals?

No. That rule ended in November 2015. Any person or company, from any country, can register a .pro name today, and nothing checks your diploma or licence. At Isthmus Domains the only check is a verified email, as ICANN requires, and payment is in crypto.

Can I hide my name on a .pro used for client work?

Yes. WHOIS privacy is included: the privacy service contact replaces your email, the only contact data we collect. Your clients see your website and your email, not the registration record. If you also want the registry record in our company's name, add the optional Domain protection.

Who owns the .pro domain if I register it here?

You do. Without Domain protection, the registry lists you as registrant, and you control DNS, nameservers and renewal. With Domain protection, our company is the registrant of record and you stay the beneficial owner. You can ask for the domain back in your own name, free of charge.

Does Panama law decide disputes about my .pro name?

Partly. We act on Panamanian court orders, not on complaints alone. But ICANN rules still apply to .pro. A trademark claim under the UDRP is handled by the dispute provider, and its panel decision is applied. Our UDRP page lists the steps and time limits.
