Quick answer

Is a .net domain available offshore without identity checks?

Yes. A .net carries no eligibility rule, and our Panama registrar needs only a verified email address. You pay in crypto, and WHOIS privacy keeps your email off public lookups. At Isthmus Domains, an offshore domain registrar in Panama, a .net costs $12.99/year the first year and $12.99/year to renew (19 October 2026), paid in crypto with no KYC.

Does a .net require any proof of who you are?

No proof of identity is needed, beyond an email you confirm. The name .net comes from network, but that was only the original intent. Today the extension has no official restriction, so a blog, a shop or a personal project can use it. ICANN rules require the registrant email to be verified, and every domain goes through our ICANN-accredited registrar partner. That email check is the only one. We do not request a passport, a utility bill or a selfie. Crypto payment means no card statement ties you to the name. Your country's laws still apply to what you publish, wherever the registrar sits.

Public record of a .net: what stays visible

A public RDAP query on your .net shows the registrar, the nameservers, the key dates and the status locks. The privacy service contact replaces your email, the only contact data we collect. This privacy is included at no extra charge. Verisign, the .net registry, is thin: it receives no registrant contact data at all. We release the data we hold only when Panamanian law requires it (a Panamanian court or prosecutor's order), or in a UDRP case. Try a lookup at lookup.icann.org once your name is live.

Domain protection for a .net

With the optional Domain protection, the .net holder of record is our company, so the registrant record and public RDAP show us, not you; Verisign holds no contact data either way. Four things change. The name sits in our company name. A transfer lock stays on, and any transfer or DNS edit needs confirmation from your account. We hold only your email. We release the data we hold only when Panamanian law requires it (a Panamanian court or prosecutor's order), or in a UDRP case. A person reviews every complaint first, and tells you when the law allows.

The .net registry: Verisign from the start

.net was introduced on 1 January 1985, and nordu.net, the first .net name, still belongs to NORDUnet. Verisign runs the registry after buying Network Solutions. Its contract came up in 2005, when ICANN invited other bids, and Verisign won again. The agreement renewed in 2011 under an ICANN board resolution. Wikipedia counts about 12.5 million .net names in late 2025, the fourth largest extension. The Verisign wholesale fee is $10.91 today, and Domain Name Wire reports it will reach $12.00 on 1 March 2027.

Projects that suit .net

UseWhy .net fits
Hosting, VPN or ISP servicesThe extension still signals networks and infrastructure to many visitors.
Fallback when the .com is takenSame registry and familiar look, with more short names left.
Technical back-ends and APIsA separate .net keeps service hosts apart from the marketing site.
Community networksMesh projects, clubs and forums often pick it for its original meaning.

Before you choose .net

Plan for the March 2027 wholesale increase: registrars may pass it on to renewals after that date. People still type .com by reflex, so a .net brand can lose some visitors to the .com owner. Check who holds the matching .com before you commit, and whether it could confuse your users. A new .net cannot move to another registrar for 60 days. Our abuse rules are the same as on every extension: phishing, malware and fraud against victims lead to suspension on a documented report.

How .net prices compare elsewhere

On 19 October 2026, Porkbun listed .net at $12.52 for the first year and for renewal. Cloudflare's at-cost price was $11.86 on 8 October 2026. Namecheap showed $11.98, then $15.06 to renew, on the same date. Among offshore sellers, OrangeWebsite asks €22.00 and 1984 Hosting $21.99. Porkbun and Cloudflare do not market themselves as offshore, and Cloudflare documents no crypto payment.

.net questions

Is .net only for internet companies?

No. The name hints at networks, and that was the purpose in 1985, but no rule enforces it today. Any person or business can register a .net for any lawful use. Many choose it when the .com is gone. We ask for a verified email and nothing more, and payment is in crypto.

Will the .net price change in 2027?

Verisign has announced a rise in its .net wholesale fee from $10.91 to $12.00 on 1 March 2027, according to Domain Name Wire. Registrars usually adjust their own prices after such a change. Our pricing page always shows the current figure with its date, so check it before a long renewal.

Who sees my data on a .net?

The public sees our privacy contact. We hold the verified email you gave us, the only contact data we collect. Verisign, the .net registry, receives no registrant contact data. With Domain protection, the registrant record shows our company instead of you. We release the data we hold only when Panamanian law requires it (a Panamanian court or prosecutor's order), or in a UDRP case.

Can I point a .net to my own nameservers?

Yes. You keep full DNS control. Use our free DNS with A, AAAA, CNAME, MX, TXT and CAA records. Or set two to thirteen nameservers of your own in the client area. The .net registry supports DNSSEC, so you can sign the zone if your DNS host offers it.
