Quick answer
Can a business register a .biz domain offshore without KYC?
Yes. GoDaddy Registry accepts .biz registrants from any country, with no upfront business check. The name must serve a genuine business or commercial purpose. We need one verified email and no ID. At Isthmus Domains, an offshore domain registrar in Panama, a .biz costs $19.49/year the first year and $20.99/year to renew (19 October 2026), paid in crypto with no KYC.

Is there a business check when you register .biz?
There is no upfront check. The registry rule says .biz names are for bona fide business or commercial use, yet nobody asks for a company number at registration. A third party can, however, challenge a .biz name that is not used for business. So the rule is real, even if it is enforced after the fact. Keep a simple sign of the business purpose online, such as an offer or contact page, in case a challenge arrives. On our side, registration takes one verified email, as ICANN requires, and no ID document. Sole traders, companies and project teams can all register, and payment is in crypto.
What a .biz lookup reveals about the owner
A .biz record in public RDAP shows the registrar name, the nameservers, the status codes and the key dates. WHOIS privacy is included on .biz, so the privacy service contact replaces your email, the only contact data we collect. GoDaddy Registry keeps the registration data it receives in its own systems, under its own policies. If a trademark dispute is filed under the UDRP, the dispute provider receives the registrant record, as ICANN rules require.
When Domain protection helps on .biz
Some owners do not want a competitor to link a .biz project to their main company, even inside the registry. The optional Domain protection covers that case: DomaineGoat LLC becomes the registrant shown to the registry and in WHOIS. Changes to DNS or transfers need a confirmation from your account. We hold only your email. We release the data we hold only when Panamanian law requires it (a Panamanian court or prosecutor's order), or in a UDRP case. A person reviews each complaint first. See Domain protection.
From its 2001 launch to GoDaddy Registry: the .biz story
.biz was created as a business alternative to .com. ICANN selected it in November 2000, and registrations opened in 2001. Wikipedia records that Neustar first ran it. Today the IANA database lists Registry Services, LLC, better known as GoDaddy Registry, as manager. The extension supports DNSSEC and accented (IDN) labels, with terms of 1 to 10 years. As a generic extension, .biz follows ICANN rules, including the UDRP and the 2024 DNS abuse amendments. The business-use condition remains in the registry policy.
Business cases where .biz works
| Use | Why .biz fits |
|---|---|
| Small firms whose .com is taken | yourfirm.biz keeps the exact brand name. |
| Local trades and services | Plumbers, shops and studios get a short commercial address. |
| Business-to-business offers | A .biz signals a commercial service, not a personal blog. |
| Separate product lines | A campaign or side brand can live apart from the main site. |
Things .biz owners should know
The business-use rule means a purely personal site on .biz can be challenged; .name or .me fit personal use better. Set SPF and DMARC records before sending mail from the domain. New registrations are locked against transfer for 60 days. Fake shops and invoice scams on a .biz are fraud that takes money from victims, and they lead to suspension on a well-documented report. Other disputes, such as a competitor complaint, wait for a Panamanian court decision.
.biz questions
Do I need a registered company to buy a .biz?
No. The registry asks for business or commercial use, not for a company number. A freelancer, a shop or a startup can register one. There is no upfront check, but a non-business use can be challenged later. At Isthmus Domains you need one verified email and crypto, nothing else.
Can a competitor get my .biz suspended by complaining?
Not with a complaint alone. We act on Panamanian court orders, and foreign judgments must first be recognised by Panama's Supreme Court. A trademark claim goes through the UDRP, where you can defend yourself. Only strict abuse, such as phishing, malware or fraud, is handled on a documented report.
Is .biz a generic or a country extension?
Generic. .biz is a gTLD, so it is not tied to any country, and ICANN rules apply. That means a verified registrant email, WHOIS privacy where we include it, the 60-day transfer lock after registration and the UDRP for trademark claims. It also supports accented (IDN) names.
How do I pay for a .biz domain?
In crypto only: BTC, USDT on TRC-20 or ERC-20, USDC on ERC-20, ETH, SOL or LTC. You top up your balance and send the exact amount shown, on the right network. The top-up is credited once the network confirms it, and the domain is then registered. See paying with crypto.
